Care In The Garden was set up in 2012 by John Goodenough and Gill Smith, to provide training and meaningful work opportunities for adults with additional needs and mental health issues here on the Isle of Wight. We are a CIC, which means any profits that we make go back into the company to help provide our Supported Workers with the help they need while they are working.<\/p>
We have grown over the years from a one van gardening team, to what we have today, which is a plant nursery, where we grow and sell our own plants. We also have a wood workshop where we produce quality garden furniture and a team of gardeners who undertake grounds maintenance and planting up contracts for companies and town \/ parish councils on the island.<\/p>
Our client group are severely disadvantaged in the workplace as many employers wrongly believe that they are not capable of working. We have developed the concept of the \"Work Buddy\". These can be either paid staff or volunteers and they support the Supported Workers whilst they are training or working. This ensures they get the support they need and ensures the work meets the employers\u2019 expectations.<\/p>
We currently provide supported training \/ work opportunities in the fields of woodwork, gardening, horticulture, floristry, ceramics and retail for 54 clients each week and we will soon add hospitality to the list of work opportunities. We plan to sell a wide range of products from jams and chutneys to T-Shirts and much more under this brand and we hope that this will not only help us to raise more funds, so that we can continue our mission to provide meaningful training and work for adults with additional needs and mental health issues but also offer the opportunities we can provide to even more people who could benefit from our services.<\/p>
